Aerobic methane-oxidizing bacteria (methanotrophs) are common in low-oxygen coastal environments, but their survival in micro-aerobic or anoxic conditions is poorly understood.This study used a bioelectrochemical system, with an electrode acting as a stand-in for oxygen to show that a methane-oxidizing bacterial (Methylobacter sp.) enrichment can produce electrical current.
