Shoreline change dataset for Bangtang Bay, Hainan Island (1964–2025)

This dataset contains spatial data, calculation tables, and plotting files for shoreline change analysis in Bangtang Bay, Hainan Island, China, covering shoreline observations from 27 June 1964 to 9 August 2025. The spatial data comprise 52 shoreline layers derived from KH-4A, Landsat, and Sentinel-2 imagery, together with a baseline, 94 analysis transects, a merged shoreline layer, and 4,833 transect–shoreline intersection points. The archive contains 56 Shapefile datasets in WGS 84 / UTM zone 49N (EPSG:32649). Two Excel workbooks provide distances from shoreline intersection points to the baseline, annual mean distances, shoreline change rates, and summary statistics. As documented in the included README, shoreline change rates are calculated as the slopes of linear regressions of annual mean distance against year and are expressed in metres per year. Two CSV files and a Python plotting script support the visualization of shoreline change rates across six study periods. The README describes the file structure, variables, coordinate reference system, calculation workflow, and usage considerations. Missing observations and failed calculations should not be interpreted as zero. The interpretation of positive and negative shoreline change rates depends on the orientation of the baseline and transects.
