资源简介:
Mitochondria are important organelles in eukaryotic cells and are crucial sites for energy synthesis and conversion during the life activities of organisms, providing energy support for various physiological activities of cells. Since the first mitochondrial genome of the terrestrial plant Marchantia was sequenced in 1992, the mitochondrial genomes of higher plants that have been sequenced include Arabidopsis, sugar beet, rapeseed, and tobacco among dicotyledons, and maize and japonica rice among monocotyledons. Due to the complexity of mitochondrial genomes, the sequencing speed of plant mitochondrial genomes is much slower than that of chloroplast genomes. The size of mitochondrial genomes varies greatly among different phyla of animals and plants. Generally speaking, the size of mitochondrial genomes in angiosperms ranges from 200 Kb to 3 Mb. The main characteristics of plant mitochondrial genomes are: huge variations in genome size and structure; extremely conserved genes; very sparse gene distribution; a large amount of non-coding sequences; and extensive RNA editing. In the NCBI database, the number of complete plastid genomes is close to 13,000, while the number of complete plant mitochondrial genomes is only 673, and only 285 species have had their organellar genomes sequenced.
