For calibration of medium to large machine tools, the trade-off among transient error effects, measurement uncertainty, and calibration effort is sali-ent. Novel directions are methods severely prioritizing low measurement time, cost, and operator complexity or aiming at full automation. This study compares the recently researched methods of static and dynamic on-the-fly calibration using a laser tracker, machine-integrated multilateration, and the commercially available laser tracer on a ZAYER Arion G machine tool. Direct comparison of the individually validated methods’ results shows general agreement, but also the need for careful interpretation to their relation among each other and in application in detail.
