Anopheles albimanus strain:STELCA principal haplotype Genome sequencing and assembly

The New World Malaria mosquito, Anopheles albimanus (An. albimanus) transmits the malaria parasite plasmodium vivax and inhabits the Neotropical regions of Latin America. An. albimanus reportedly has the lowest genomic repeat content and smallest genome among the Anopheles genus, making it an excellent choice for testing new technologies for genome assembly in mosquitoes. We report the reference-quality de novo assembly for Anopheles albimanus using Oxford Nanopore long reads and newly-developed Bionano DLS chemistry for scaffolding. This genome assembly will be a valuable resource for understanding mosquito biology and will inform future comparative and population genomics studies.
