资源简介:
Periodontal disease (PD) is one of the most widespread inflammatory diseases in dogs. Recent research revealed that nisin-biogel can be a promising compound for canine PD control, but no information is available regarding its effect on the dog's oral microbiome. In this study, nisin-biogel influence on the diversity of canine oral microbiome was evaluated using next generation sequencing. Supragingival plaque samples from two dogs were collected, in duplicate, at three timepoints: T1 (before any application of the nisin-biogel at the teeth surface), T2 (after one application of the nisin-biogel) and T3 (after a total of three applications of the nisin-biogel). Afterwards, microbial profiling was performed. Bacterial diversity and specific bacterial species variations between timepoints were evaluted, allowing us to understand if nisin-biogel can influence the general canine oral microbiome, as well as, some species related with PD.
