PHRASEOLOGY IN ENGLISH: UNVEILING THE COLOR AND STRUCTURE OF NATURAL LANGUAGE

Phraseology, the study of fixed and semi-fixed multi-word expressions, is essential for achieving native-like fluency in English. Unlike grammatical competence, phraseological competence allows speakers to produce natural, idiomatic, and contextually appropriate utterances. Aim. This article aims to classify the main types of English phraseological units (idioms, collocations, and phrasal verbs), analyze their linguistic properties based on Vinogradov’s semantic classification, and discuss the challenges and strategies for teaching phraseology to Uzbek-speaking learners. Methods. The study employs a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach grounded in lexicological and pragmatic theory. Data include authentic examples from everyday speech and corpus-based collocations.
