Floristic and ecological surveys of plants and microbes in the Garwood Valley

A general floristic and ecological survey of plants and microbes was conducted in the Garwood Valley/Joyce Lake area including vegetation mapping, collection and microscopic examination of algae and in situ measurements of nitrogen fixation. Areas covered include the Garwood and Marshall Valleys, the vicinity of Joyce Lake, the northern edge of the Joyce Glacier, the uplands between the Garwood and the Marshall Valleys and the surfaces of the Garwood and Joyce Glaciers. A general vegetation survey was completed at the Howchin Glacier snout and Walcott Glacier. On camp studies include detailed microscopy and gas chromatography and N2 fixation experiments.
