资源简介:
The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school. The series from Salisbury Public School is presently represented by two volumes, which between them cover the period from 1900 until the closure of the school at the end of 1972. The two surviving volumes display some differences in format, due to their having been prepared for use some sixty years apart from one another. The earlier of the surviving volumes was commenced at the beginning of 1908, but includes entries for all enrolments current at that time, the earliest of which dates from 1900. It records all subsequent admissions to the school until 1959. The information pertaining to each pupil contained in this volume includes date of admission; pupil's name, age and religious denomination; and date of leaving previous school. The details recorded about the child's parents or guardians include name, residence and occupation. The volume makes provision for the pupil's dates of admission to the Lower and Upper divisions of the school to be recorded, and after 1913 this is modified by hand-ruling of extra columns to record the date of promotion to each successive grade. The date of the pupil’s leaving the school is also recorded, and the name of any school to which they may have transferred, or of any occupation entered into on leaving school, is commonly noted alongside this date.Girls and boys are listed on opposite pages in order of admission. Entries are numbered sequentially, with separate sequences maintained for girls and for boys. The numbering of these sequences commences at the beginning of the volume, but the first eleven girls’ entries, and the first twenty boys’ entries, have been transferred from the previous volume in the series, and the numbering which they bore in that volume has been noted alongside each entry in the left-hand margin of the page. The numbering of each sequence is then continuous from year to year until the beginning of 1955. Thereafter boys’ and girls’ entries form a single sequence, the numbering of which begins anew at the start of each school year. The later volume, which is the last in the series, records admissions from 1960 until the closure of the school in 1972. The information pertaining to each pupil contained in this volume includes date of admission; pupil's name, sex and date of birth; religious denomination; name of previous school and date of leaving. The details recorded about the child's parents or guardians include only name and residence. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, and date of leaving the school, are also recorded, as is the name of any school, college or University entered, or any occupation entered into, on leaving school.Pupils are listed in order of admission, with no distinction made between girls and boys, so that these entries form a single sequence, the numbering of which begins anew at the start of each school year.
