EU Ecosystem Typology level 3

This dataset defines the ecosystem typology of the Portuguese maritime areas according to the Eu Ecosystem Typology level 3.

The EU Ecosystem Typology Level 3 refers to a classification system used within the European Union's framework for mapping and assessing ecosystems and their services, primarily under the Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystems and their Services (MAES) initiative.

The mapping between EUSeaMap (EUNIS-based, 22 classes) and the EU Ecosystem Typology Level 3 (EUROSTAT/MAES, 4 classes) enables the integration of detailed benthic habitat data into ecosystem accounting frameworks. This correspondence supports consistent reporting and valuation of marine ecosystem services within the SEEA EA, particularly for the development of Marine Ecosystem Satellite Accounts.
