资源简介:
This series consists of condolence books relating to the Martin Place/Lindt Cafe siege that occurred in Sydney in December 2014.On 15 December 2014 at approximately 8.33am, a lone gunman by the name of Man Haron Monis entered the Lindt Cafe in Martin Place and took the staff and customers hostage. The siege lasted over 17 hours, ending in the death of Monis and two of the hostages, Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson. Several other hostages were also injured. (1)After the siege ended, condolence books were set up for the public by the New South Wales Government at various locations around Sydney including Parliament House, the Sydney Opera House, Lindt Cafe stores, and Eight Selborne Chambers. An online condolence book was also created on the New South Wales Government’s website (nsw.gov.au). Condolence books were also received from the radio station 2DayFM and from the Fraser Coast Queensland. The Government condolence books were created using loose leaf pages stored in special purpose ring binder folders. Only the loose leaf pages were transferred to State Records as the folders were required by the creating agency for other events. The Lindt Cafe books are in the form of bound, hard-cover notebooks and the 2DayFM condolence books are paper booklets. The Fraser Coast condolence book was created using loose leaf pages in a ring binder folder.Endnotes1. Commonwealth of Australia. (2015).
