Vs30 Estimates in California from the P-wave Seismogram Approach

Vs30 is a commonly used parameter in ground motion models and building codes to account for site effects. For locations where Vs30 measurements are not available, the P-wave seismogram method is an attractive alternative to estimate Vs30. The P-wave seismogram method estimates the near surface shear wave velocity using the ratio between the horizontal and vertical components of the initial portion of incident P-waves recorded at ground motion recording stations. This dataset contains the data files and scripts utilized to estimate the Vs30 at 194 ground motion recording stations in California.
