BRIEF HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF AUTISM

Since its appearance in the field of developmental disorders, autism has gone through different stages and classification criteria; from being considered a type of childhood schizophrenia, to blurring the boundaries between the different types of autism to fit them into a whole spectrum, the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Class notes on the development of autism from Bleuler to the latest classification according to the DSM V are presented.
