Replica Atlatl (Catalog # 2002:226.244), a part of the Michigan State University Museum's Archaeology Teaching Collection. Created by Carl Doney, this tool is composed of an oak wooden handle, leather finger grips, a banner stone (Catalog # 2001.19.3), and an antler tine hook. Atlatls were used to throw long darts for hunting. They served as an extension of the throwing arm, enabling hunters to throw darts with more velocity and accuracy.
