This dataset includes example measurements of a human, a juvenile grey seal and a bottlenose dolphin from NIRS recordings of respiration and heart beats as shown in Fig. 2 of "Near-Infrared Spectroscopy as a Tool for Marine Mammal Research and Care" submitted in Frontiers in Physiology - Physio-logging, Research Topic: Methods and Applications in Physio-logging on 11/17/2021.<br><br>Oxygenated hemoglobin derived from the raw light intensity measured by NIRS are denoted as hum_o, seal_o and dolphin_o for Human, seal, and dolphin data, respectively. deoxygenated data is indexed with "_d" and the time axis is indexed with "_t". <br><br>Human experiments were conducted after the participant provided informed voluntary consent. All procedures were approved by the Carnegie Mellon University Institutional Review Board (STUDY2015_00000113).<br>Procedures for capture, handling and housing of grey seals conformed to the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, under the Sea Mammal Research Units’ Home Office license (no. 70/7806) and were performed by personnel deemed competent under EU directive.<br> The dolphin experiment was approved by the Oceanogràfic Animal Care &amp; Welfare Committee at the Fundación Oceanogràfic Valencia, Spain (OCE-10-20), and the Bureau of Medicine (BUMED, NRD1170).<br> <br>
