The Grand Avenue Project has the potential to make this transformation. One of the Project's major components is the redevelopment of the Civic Park, which will include a major public art component, and the opportunity to provide a common ground for Angelenos to engage in cultural activities. -- Chicago's Millennium Park is a successful predecessor of such a plan, as it typifies a dynamic and engaging public space, achieved largely through the incorporation of public art. The purpose of this research is to analyze Millennium Park as a case study for the inclusion of public art as an urban revitalization tool, and to make specific recommendations for public art planning for the Civic Park.
