资源简介:
This dataset provides 140 years (1883–2022) of annual production, cultivated area, and yield records for six major crops in Japan: rice, wheat, barley, soybean, potato, and sweet potato. The records cover all 47 prefectures and were compiled from the official statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and its predecessors. Historical printed reports (1883–1946) were digitized and combined with modern electronic data (1947–2022) to create a continuous, long-term dataset suitable for quantitative analyses of agricultural production. The dataset enables comprehensive analyses of long-term trends in crop productivity, as influenced by advances in genetics, breeding techniques, and changes in agricultural policy and practice. It also supports investigations into the impacts of climate variability and socio-economic changes on Japanese agriculture over more than a century. With high temporal resolution (annual) and spatial resolution (prefectural), this dataset provides a valuable foundation for understanding the interplay between environmental change and food production in Japan. Files included in the archive (CropProduction_JP_1883-2022.zip): 1. CropProduction_JP_1883-2022.csv — Annual prefectural records of production (tonnes), cultivated area (hectares), and yield (t ha⁻¹) for six major crops from 1883–2022. 2. Japanese_Calendar.csv — Conversion table between Japanese and Gregorian calendar years (Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, Reiwa). 3. Prefecture_Code.csv — Codes and regional groupings for all 47 prefectures and 10 regions (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Hokuriku, Kanto-Tozan, Tokai, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa). 4. CropProduction_JP_DataSources.xlsx — List of all original sources, publication details, and bibliographic information. Data Collection Notes Before 1946, agricultural statistics in Japan were compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce under the Regulations Concerning Information on Agriculture and Commerce (1883), based on official reports submitted by prefectural and municipal offices. Since 1947, following the introduction of a crop reporting system recommended by the General Headquarters after World War II, the MAFF and its predecessors have conducted standardized annual Crop Surveys based on sampling theory, including area, yield, and crop damage surveys. Field measurements were introduced in 1956, correspondence with local governments and agricultural cooperatives began in 2007, GIS and aerial photographs were adopted in 2013, and an online reporting system was launched in 2015. The detailed sources and references are listed in CropProduction_JP_DataSources.xlsx.
