To assess the mobility and bioaccessibility of antimony and the effect of weathering on leachability of residual antimony from mine tailings, twelve samples were taken from an antimony tailings pile in Guizhou province, Southwest China. Microbial communities inhabiting the tailing samples were characterized as well to investigate the interplay between the microorganisms and minerals in antimony-rich environments. At the phylum level, Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria were most dominant phyla. The two most abundant genera, Thiobacillus and Limnobacter, are characterized as sulfur oxidizing bacteria and thiosulfate oxidizing bacteria, respectively.
