Results from radon measurements

The dataset reports values for radon measurements submitted to Umeå Municipality. The dataset is currently incomplete, but efforts are ongoing to include more radon measurements. There may also be additional measurements conducted that the municipality is unaware of.In multi-family buildings, measurements may have been conducted in several different apartments with varying results, but the measurement location is linked to the entrance address or the property where the measurement was performed.Radon levels in indoor air vary throughout the year. These variations are mainly due to changes in outdoor temperature and wind speed. Levels also fluctuate throughout the day and from room to room. The ventilation system and the frequency of airing out also influence radon levels. Therefore, radon measurements must be conducted over a long period, at least two months, and during the colder season. Measurements taken over shorter periods or outside the heating season are only indicative. It is important to note that if the ventilation system is altered, windows are sealed, cracks appear in the foundation, or major renovations are carried out, a new measurement should be conducted. The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority also recommends conducting a new measurement if more than 10 years have passed since the last one.The information is updated continuously, both on an ongoing basis for individual radon measurements and annually when consolidated data is received from radon laboratories. The Environmental and Health Protection Department at Umeå Municipality is responsible for the information.
