Eclipse mapping of 4U 2129+47: unveiling emission mechanisms of quiescent SXRTs

In addition to neutron star, NS, cooling, different mechanisms might power theXray emission of quiescent soft Xray transients, SXRTs: a. accretion onto theNS surface or, b. down to the magnetosphere; c. shock emission from the wind ofa turnedon radio pulsar. In cases a. and b. the harder Xray emissionoriginates close to the NS, while in case c. over binary separation scales. A 60ks XMM observation of the eclipsing SXRT 4U 2129+47 will unambiguously determinethe production site of this emission, shedding light on the physics of fastspinning, weakly magnetic neutron stars subject to low mass inflow rates. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
