Whole genome sequencing of Enterovirus 68 virus from Philadelphia

The causative role of EV-D68 in AFM remains controversial despite accumulating clinical and animal model data. More information is needed on the epidemiology and genetics of the virus over the last decade to better understand if the increases in AFM cases may be due to changes in the virus and/or increased prevalence. Our objective was to determine the pediatric prevalence of EV-D68 from 2009-2018 as well as the molecular evolution during that time period and potential association with AFM.
