Microbial community composition of biological soil crusts in coastal sand dunes in northern Germany

This data was collected in coastal and inland sand dunes in northern Germany. Sampling took place in spring 2020 and winter 2021. Biocrusts and uppermost sediment samples were collected along dune successional gradients and sequenced by LGC Genomics Ltd. The V3-V4 reion of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified with the Klindworth primers (341F-785R). Sequencing libraries were generated in mixed orientation, so that both R1 and R2 contain forward and reverse oriented reads. To account for this in the data submission, there are 2 entries for each sample corresponding to the forward-reverse, and reverse-forward orientation (here R1 reads are listed under reverse_file_name).
