Enterococcus faecium E4452 was isolated from a dog in 2008 in The Hague, the Netherlands. DNA and bacteria can be obtained from Dr. Rob Willems and Dr. Willem van Schaik. Enterococcus faecium is gastrointestinal commensal in mammals and other animals and has emerged as a major nosocomial pathogens. Previous studies have found that E. faecium strains isolated from dogs are genetically linked to strains that cause human infections (Damborg et al., 2009. Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 75:2360-2365).
