Maps of small reservoirs in Brazil in 2021 from "Mapping one million small dams in Brazil reveals widespread environmental and policy impacts". Distributed in four data formats, all in SAD 1969 Albers South America (ESRI:102033) projection: A. reservoirs_sentinel_2021_polygons.gpkg --- GeoPackage of reservoir polygons. This layer is also available as a public Earth Engine asset. B. reservoirs_sentinel_2021_points.gpkg --- GeoPackage of reservoir centroid points. C. reservoirs_sentinel_2021.tif --- GeoTIFF raster with following values: - 1 = Reservoir - 0 = Non-reservoir - 255 = No data (outside Brazil land mass) D. reservoirs_sentinel_2021_RAW.tif --- GeoTIFF raster of raw model outputs before any score thresholding and post-processing. Each pixel has a score from 0-100. Threshold used for all downstream analysis was >62. --------- Also includes: sicar_reservoirs_merged.gpkg: A merged reservoir dataset from SICAR (Sistema Nacional de Cadastro Ambiental Rural), Brazil's national database of rural environment regsitry data. The reservoir polygons are manually dilineated by property owners and/or state environmental agencies. To make this combined dataset, we downloaded all available state-level hydrography data, selected only in-stream artificial reservoirs (cod_tema = "RESERVATORIO_ARTIFICIAL_DECORRENTE_BARRAMENTO"), and merged them, including a spatial join of overlapping and/or fragmented polygons resulting from digitization artificats and property boundaries.
