Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM)^*.

Interpretation of SAM percentage ratings: 70–100% = superior material. 40–69% = adequate material. 0–39% = not suitable material. *The SAM tool was validated with 172 health care providers from several cultures, including Southwest Asians, Native Americans, and African Americans, as well as students and faculty from the University of North Carolina School of public Health and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. The SAM was developed under the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine project, “Nutrition Education in Urban African Americans,” funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Bethesda, MD, 1993.
