Streptomyces sp. QL37 belongs to a collection of strains that are isolated from remote areas (the Qinling Mountains). Next-generation sequencing of this strain combined with sophisticated genome mining tools are used with the aim to discover novel biosynthetic gene clusters and thus novel natural products. These natural products are then further analyzed for their potential as pharmaceutical compounds, such as antibiotics or anti-cancer agents.
