A Study on the Pathogenic Mechanism of Salmonella

Salmonella is a major foodnorne pathogen that can effectively replicate inside host macrophages to establish life threatening systemic infection. Salmonella must be able to utilize diverse nutrients for growth in the nutrient-poor macrophages, but which nutrients that are required for Salmonella intracellular growth is largely unknown. We found that beta alanine is important for intracellular replication and pathogenicity of Salmonella.
