Gene expression identifies metabolic and functional differences between intramuscular and subcutaneous adipocytes in cattle

To further our understanding of bovine fat depot biology we screened 5 discrete fat depots (IMF, intermuscular, omental, kidney and subcutaneous) for patterns of genome-wide gene expression Gene expression in bovine fat depots was measured in 26 m old bos taurus steers representing 3 genetic backgrounds after 259 d in a feedlot . Twelve (3 genetic background x 4 individual replicates per background) independent replicates were used to characterise each depot.
