We have identified and mapped a novel broad-spectrum disease resistance gene effective against the late blight pathogen Phytophthora infestans from the wild diploid potato species Solanum bulbocastanum. Resistant S. bulbocastanum accession Blb7650 was crossed with S. michoacanum (a naturally occurring hybrid between S. bulbocastanum and S. pinnatisectum) accession MCH3847. The resistant bulk was composed of 23 resistant F1 progeny and the susceptible bulk 24 susceptible progeny.
