Long-term effects of a wheat bran intervention on the gut microbiota in the DP-M-SHIME in vitro model

The long-term effects of dietary wheat bran supplementation on the composition and functionality of the gut microbial community derived from six individuals were explored in the Dietary Particle Mucosal Simulator of the Human Intestinal Microbial Ecosystem (DP-M-SHIME) in vitro model. The effects induced by one month of wheat bran intervention were compared to baseline values recorded during the stabilisation period of at least one week and the reversibility of the effects was assessed after returning to a wheat bran-free diet in the wash-out phase.
