Butterflies develop an immense array of wing color patterns that are used for diverse purposes, from attracting potential mates to warning or startling predators. Hypolimnas misippus displays a female-limited mimicry polymorphism, where females develop one of several mimetic wing color patterns while males develop a single non-mimetic wing color pattern. This reference genome was generated to aid identification of the loci controlling the H. misippus mimicry polymorphism.
