Co-assembly of oxygen-minimum zones of global oceans. omz_coassembly

Oxygen concentrations in the surface ocean have increased from 0 to 200 µmoles kg-1 over the last 2.4 billion years. The molecular mechanisms that allowed microbes to adapt to these changing oxygen conditions have been obscured over time. Yet the microbes that experience variable oxygen concentrations in modern marine oxygen minimum zones (OMZs) have the potential to preserve genetic adaptations underlying oxygen tolerance.This assembly is composed of samples from oxygen-minimum zones found in the JCVI Global Ocean Sampling cruises as well as other publicly available data sets.
