Permit Timeliness - Permit Application Processing Times (Washington State)

The Permit Timeliness dataset tracks how long it takes Washington State agencies to process permit applications. In 2014, state law <a href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=43.42A&full=true">RCW 43.42A</a> was enacted to promote transparency and efficiency by requiring agencies to report permit processing times. Initially, the law covered 136 permits across 13 state agencies. As the program evolved, the number of permits and participating agencies changed. Each year, agencies reported how long it took to process permit applications during the previous calendar year. This data was collected and published by <a href="https://www.oria.wa.gov">The Governor's Office for Regulatory Innovation and Assistance (ORIA)</a> by March 1st. Alongside the data, progress reports summarized agency-reported information, identified trends in processing times, and described efforts to improve clarity, efficiency, and predictability in regulatory permitting. The final required report under RCW 43.42A was completed in 2020.
