Aligned Landmark Coordinates and Metadata

These data are Procrustes-aligned geometric morphometric landmark coordinates generated from photographs of carapaces of the Eastern Box Turtle (Terrapene carolina) in dorsal, lateral, and posterior views. Metadata are also included in these data. Landmarks were generated in TPSDig and TPSDig2, and superimposed in TPSRelw (J. Rohlf, http://life.bio.sunysb.edu/ee/rohlf/software.html). Symmetric components of symmetric views were extracted using MorphoJ (C. Klingenberg, http://www.flywings.org.uk/morphoj_page.htm). Coordinates were further cleaned and organized in R (R Core Development Team). The photographs used to digitize landmarks and raw landmark coordinates are included as a separate datasets within this project. <br><br>They were generated for the M.S. Thesis "The Eastern Box Turtle (Terrapene carolina) in space and time" and the manuscript "Delineating modern variation from extinct morphology within and between species in the fossil record using shell variation in the Eastern Box Turtle (<i>Terrapene carolina</i>)", both by N.S. Vitek.<br>Metadata were developed from each specimen's specimen metadata from respective institutions or from published information about each specimen or fossil locality. Specimens without latitutde and longitude data were georeferenced by N.S.
