DNA was extracted from intact lichen samples of Xanthoria parietina. In total, we used nine samples: three fresh samples collected from tree bark outside The Sainsbury Laboratory (TSL) in Norwich, UK, three fresh samples collected from concrete fenceposts outside TSL, and three samples from growth chambers. From the metagenomic DNA, libraries were constructed and sequenced on Illumina NovoSeq.
