Understanding the mechanisms by which chlorophylls are synthesized to produce green-coloured, or, when in combination with anthocyanins, dark purple-coloured eggplant(Solanum melongena) fruits are of great relevance for eggplant breeding.The validation of the candidate gene SmAPRR2 was performed bythe sequencing of SmAPRR2 in a set of S3MEGGIC individuals, selected for their fruitphenotype, and through the de novo assembly of SmAPRR2 in 277 accessions from the G2P-SOL eggplant core collection.
