16S rRNA genes from the water column (surface and 2 meters above the sediment) were amplified using PCR and sequenced using the 454 FLX platform with titanium chemistry. Multiple stations across Lake Erie, in both the summer and winter of 2010, were investigated. The goal of this study was to investigate the seasonality of the microbial community of Lake Erie.
