Sediment oxygen penetration depths in Reyðarfjörður and Berufjörður, Iceland

Datasets comprise of oxygen peneration depths measured in intact cores collected from Reyðarfjörður and Berufjörður, Iceland.

Intact seafloor sediment were collected by box corer in in June 2023 aboard the R/V Skagerrak (Universirt of Gothenburg). Sediment cores (inner diameter = 4.6 cm, n=1-2) were sub-sampled from undistrubed sediment surface in the corer, and were transfered immediately to temperature controlled room on deck for sediment oxygen microprofiling. To determination oxygen penetration depth in each core, oxygen microprofiles (n = 2–6) were measured using Clark-type oxygen microelectrodes with a guard cathode (Revsbech 1989) mounted on a motorised micromanipulator (Unisense) at a vertical resolution of 200 μm.

Water depth, bottom water temperature and salinity of each sampling station were measured by Sea-Bird SBE 911 prior to sediment sampling.
