The Deinococcus species is the best known as radioresistant bacteria. Deinococcus aetherius ST0316 was isolated as a pink-red pigmented, non-motile, desiccation tolerant, UV- and gamma-resistant bacterium from an air dust collected in lower stratosphere above Japan.
