It is built on the Agricultural Policy Environmental eXtender model developed by the USDA Agricultural Research Service and provides a user friendly interface that allows farmers, conservation planners, and watershed managers to simulate real world field conditions. Users enter information such as soil type, crop rotation, fertilizer application, tillage method, weather data, and conservation practices. The tool then predicts how nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment move across the landscape through runoff, leaching, and erosion.</p><p>The tool is designed to compare different management scenarios so users can see how changes such as adopting no till, adding cover crops, adjusting fertilizer timing, or installing buffers would affect nutrient losses over time.
