High-resolution land cover dataset with implemented forest management practice for use in regional climate models within the OptFor-EU project

This repository contains a land cover dataset with the implemented forest management practice thinning for use in regional climate models. This work supports the Deliverable 2.3 of the Europe Horizon project OPTimising FORest management decisions for a low-carbon, climate resilient future in Europe (OptFor-EU).

Based on the LANDMATE PFT dataset (Reinhart et al. 2022), this dataset was created for two selected case study areas (CSA), namely the Eastern Lowlands of Lower Saxony in Germany and the Arges and Teleorman counties in Romania, at 0.0275° horizontal resolution and on a rotated coordinate system. It will be implemented in regional climate modelling studies on convection-permitting scale within OptFor-EU.

In addition, this repository contains the source code, which was used to create this dataset. It can be applied for further CSAs as well as to different coordinate systems. Also, a small script for creating test graphics is added.

The README.md file describes the use of the software.
