Four lithic artifacts believed to exhibit residues were submitted for protein residue analysis
to confirm the presence of residues and possibly determine the nature of the residues. Protein
residues from an artifact's surface can provide information concerning animal resources that were
processed by the site occupants. These artifacts were recovered from site 5PA2332 as part of the
South Park Archaeological Project in central Colorado. After initial examination, the area of
discoloration believed to be residue on one of the artifacts was determined to be red coloring in the
petrified wood and was not further analyzed.
