THE ROLE OF DOCUMENTARY FILMS IN MODERN SOCIETY: PRESERVING TRUTH AND RAISING AWARENESS

This article explores the role of documentary films in modern society as a significant medium for preserving truth and raising social awareness within the context of the University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan. Documentary films are analyzed as a form of visual storytelling that not only reflects real-life events but also interprets social reality, influences public opinion, and contributes to the formation of collective memory. The study examines the theoretical and practical aspects of documentary filmmaking, focusing on its functions in informing, educating, and engaging audiences in critical social issues. Particular attention is paid to the capacity of documentary films to address contemporary challenges such as social inequality, cultural identity, environmental concerns, and political processes. The research also highlights the role of documentary cinema in shaping civic responsibility and encouraging active participation in society. Through qualitative analysis, the article identifies the main characteristics of documentary films that enable them to serve as an effective tool for communication and social transformation.
