Draft genome sequence of Mycobacterium sp. shizuoka-1. Mycobacterium sp. shizuoka-1

We found a fast-growing mycobacterium from a well water in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan. Genotypic analysis using 16S rRNA and hsp65 genes suggested that this mycobacterium was relatively related to human-pathogenic mycobacterium, Mycobacterium rhodesiae. And furthermore, whole genome sequence analysis confirmed that this mycobacterium was distinct from M. rhodesiae. Based on these analysis, we propose naming this new species Mycobacterium sp. shizuoka-1.
