Benthic bacterial and archaeal community structure was investigated at ultra-slow Southwest Indian Ridge 10°-17°E (PS81) and at adjacent to the north and to the south abyssal plains (PS79 and PS81). The 16S rRNA hypervariable V3-V4 region for Bacteria and V3-V5 region for Archaea were sequenced using Illumina MiSeq platform (2x300 bp) with 341F/785R and 349F/915R primers, respectively.
