The set contains data from a questionnaire about design undergraduates’ views regarding their experience with design studio culture. The questionnaire was conducted between February and May 2023 using google forms. Participants were senior undergraduates (n=126) enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in design at a University in Portugal. Participant data was anonymised. The survey covers studio culture aspects, including peer feedback, collaboration, teacher guidance, workload, competition, mental health, concentration, and time management. The results reveal both positive aspects and areas for improvement in studio culture, providing insights for universities to improve their students’ pedagogical experiences. Results of this study underscore strengths and weaknesses of design studio culture. Data shows that students value peer feedback, collaboration, and teacher mentorship as key aspects of their development as designers; but students also mentioned problematic issues related with excessive competition, workload, poor mental health, and difficulty with concentration. Results offer evidence for the impact of studio culture on learning and support best practices for academic studio environments. Furthermore, the findings contribute to a discussion of the role design studios play within the challenges of contemporary academia. The dataset is available as a Microsoft Excel file (.xlsx) and a .CSV file. The questionnaire’s questions are available as a .PDF file. The data can be used to study the perspectives of senior undergraduates in design regarding their experience with the design studio educational format.
