资源简介:
The paper introduces an experimental procedure to evaluate the utility of vocal-sonification (auditory representations) of EEG data as a means for physicians to recognize and differentiate different brain states. We conducted an experiment where listeners judged pairwise similiarity between sound examples for 12 examples from 4 groups. The darker the value in the shown matrix, the more similar the examples are perceived. The matrix plot should have a block diagonal shape if the display allows perfect discrimination. The apparent block structure suggests that sonification is indeed efficient for this purpose. We furthermore present a interface to record vocal sketches (imitations) of sonifications to check how good users are to use their own vocal tract to point to characteristic patterns in the sonifications. As sound examples we here present 2 vocal sonifications of absence EEG and 1 sonifications of artefact EEG. ### Absence 1: The original sonification is: + [Absence_1 (mp3, 56K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698537) The sound that two subjects created who were asked to imitate the sound with their own vocal tract: + [Absence_1_a (mp3, 24K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698538) + [Absence_1_t (mp3, 24K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698539) ### Absence 2: The original sonification is: + [Absence_2 (mp3, 56K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698540) The sound that two subjects created who were asked to imitate the sound with their own vocal tract: + [Absence_2_a (mp3, 32K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698541) + [Absence_2_g (mp3, 24K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698542) ### Artefact example: The original sonification is: + [Artefact_3 (mp3, 56K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698543) The sound that two subjects created who were asked to imitate the sound with their own vocal tract: + [Artefact_3_a (mp3, 24K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698544) + [Artefact_3_t (mp3, 32K)](https://pub.uni-bielefeld.de/download/2698536/2698545) We have not evaluated in how far the imitated versions induce the same similiarity structure, that is, if imitation is a valid new form of communicating EEG patterns.
