Bacteria play an essential role in the health of terrestrial plants. The same applies to macro-algae or seaweed. One way in which bacteria ensures the health and wellbeing of seaweed, is through the production of the compound, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). This compound is a growth hormone, encouraging the formation of new growth in seaweed.
