Gene database of Bacteroides fragilis NCTC 9343

An obligate anaerobe, <i>Bacteroides fragilis</i> is a Gram-negative commensal bacterium that inhabit the colon section of the human gastrointestinal tract. Capable of causing disease if displaced to the bloodstream, the bacterium is increasingly of interest as a source of enzymes for biotechnological degradation of plant cellulosic material. This work sought to provide fundamental information about the genetic repertoire of <i>B. fragilis</i> NCTC 9343 by parsing the annotated genome sequence of the bacterium downloaded from Genbank. Comprising gene name, gene function, gene sequence, the resource should find use in molecular cloning workflow seeking to apply the genetic capability of <i>B. fragilis</i> to other biotechnology host. In addition, the gene database could also inform fundamental work to elucidate basic biology of this intestinal commensal.
