Grassbase India

The grassbase_india_2025_ver1 dataset includes a list of grass species present in different districts of India (barring a few in the union territories of Jammu & Kashmir), compiled from various national and regional floras. The dataset additionally contains information on the subfamily, life history (annual vs perennial) and photosynthetic pathway (C3 vs C4) of each species as reported in the floras. In cases where information on the photosynthetic pathway was not reported in the floras, data were obtained from Osborne et al., (2014). Each district in our dataset has been assigned a biogeographic zone based on the biogeographic classification of the Indian subcontinent by Rodgers et al. (2002). In cases where the district spans multiple zones, the district has been assigned the biogeographic zone that covers the maximum area of the district.
